Durood-e-Paak (peace and blessings)

First of all I would like to admit the fact that words alone cannot express the excellence, benefits and blessings of Durood-e-paak.

Allah Paak Jallashanu says in Surah Ahzab 33, Verse: 56,

‘‘Indeed Allah Ta’ala and His Angels send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (SAW), O You who believe send peace and blessings on the Prophet (SAW).’’

It is clear from this verse that Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu and His Angels are sending Durood-e-Paak (peace and Blessings) on the Prophet (SAW). In other words, to send peace and blessings on the Prophet (SAW) is the sunnah of Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu. Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu does not pray, pay Zakah (alms,Zakat), or fast nor does He go for Hajj (holy pilgrimage). Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu sends peace and blessings upon His beloved. Praying, paying Zakah, fasting and Hajj are all actions of the Prophet (SAW). Reciting Durood-e-Paak (peace and blessings) is the action of Allah Paak Jallashanahu. Ones action is also referred to as sunnah. Thus, one is the sunnah of the Prophet (SAW) whilst the other is the sunnah of Allah Paak Jallashanahu. It is agreed that Allah Paak Jallashanahu’s sunnah is above the sunnah of any Prophet, thus reciting Durood-e-paak (peace and blessings) is superior to praying, paying Zakah, fasting and going for Hajj, however this does not mean that one should stop praying, paying Zakat, fasting and going on hajj, these are all compulsory actions in themselves. In order for these actions to be accepted it is necessary that one has possessed a heart full of love for the Beloved Prophet (SAW). Whosoever possesses love for the Prophet (SAW) in his heart, does not feel at ease until he recites darood-e-pak, he cannot live without reciting darood-e-paak.

A simple, short and comprehensive Durood-e-paak is:

Ya Rahmatalill a’lameen Sallallahu’alaiyhi’wasallam.

Try reciting with full concentration for at least 45 mins daily. If Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu wills in just a few days, the condition of you heart will change, you will find the peace of heart that you have been searching for years. The only condition is that you recite it with sincerity of the heart and maximum concentration. You recite it with weeping eyes out of the love for the Beloved Prophet (SAW).

The following Darood-e-Owaisia is specific for our Silsila Owaisia Muhammadia (Sallallahu Alaiyhi Wasallam):

We recite Durood-e-Ibrahimi within our prayers. If we exclude it, our prayer will be incomplete. Now we are performing prayers for Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu and reciting Durood-e-paak for the Beloved Prophet (SAW). It is stated in a Hadith that, ‘Perform prayer in such a way as though you see Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu, if this is difficult to imagine, you should imagine that Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu is watching you’. Therefore, it has been forbidden for one to imagine anything or anyone but Allah Paak Jallashanahu during prayer. On one hand it is forbidden to even think about anything but Allah, whilst on the other hand Durood-e-paak is being sent on the Prophet (SAW) and it has not been forbidden. The extremely beautiful point in this is that it has been forbidden to think or imagine the stranger, not the One whom Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu Himself has created with His nur (light).

Hazrat Imam Ghazali (RA) has stated that, there was once a person who did not recite Durood-e-paak. He was once blessed with a visit from the Beloved Prophet (SAW) in his dream. However, the Beloved Prophet (SAW) did not pay any attention towards this man. When the man enquired as to why this was the case, the beloved Prophet (SAW) replied, ‘I do not know you’. The man said, ‘I am your ummati and the great scholars say that You recognise each and every member of Your ummah very well, even more than a mother knows her child. The beloved Prophet (SAW) replied, ‘You speak the truth but the more my ummati recites durood-e-paak upon me, the more I recognise them. After experiencing such a dream, the man started reciting Durood-e-paak 100 times daily. After a couple of days, the man was again blessed with a visit from the beloved Prophet (SAW) in his dream. The beloved Prophet (SAW) said, ‘I now recognise you and I shall intercede on behalf of you on the day of judgement’(I will do Shifa’at for you).

Awliya Allah state that if one forgets something and recites Durood-e-paak, he will recall what he had forgotten.

Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa (RT)(May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with Her) narrates that, ‘One night I was sewing a cloth when suddenly the sewing needle fell from my hand, simultaneously the lamp went off. The room was entirely dark and the sewing needle could not be seen. In the mean time the Beloved Prophet (SAW) entered the room, the entire room became illuminated by the nur (light) on His blessed face and I now saw the sewing needle. I said, “The blessed face of the Prophet (SAW) is so much enlightened/illuminated (nurani). The Prophet (SAW) said, that pity be on that person and pity be on that person a thousand times that will be deprived from seeing even one glance of me on the day of judgement. I asked, ‘who is that person?. Aqaa Kareem (SAW) replied that person is the ‘stingy’ one, a miser (bukheel). I asked, ‘who is the stingy one?. Aqaa Kareem (SAW) replied, ‘the one, in the presence of whom my blessed name is taken and he fails to send Durood-e-paak on me’.

When Hazrat Adam (Upon Him be peace) was wedded to Hazrat Hawa (upon Her be peace), the marriage gift/dowry was offered in the form of reciting Durood-e-paak upon the Beloved Prophet (SAW). It is reported in a Hadith that, ‘the one who recites durood-e-paak abundantly shall be in the shade of the Throne(arsh) on the day of judgement’. It is mentioned in a Hadith that, ‘the one who sends durood on me 100 times daily, Allah Ta’ala fulfils 100 of his needs, 30 in the world and 70 in the hereafter, but the one who forgets to recite durood-e-paak on me, it is as if he has forgotten the path to paradise. He has strayed far from the path to heaven.

Allah Paak Jallashanahu commands us to send peace and blessings upon the Beloved Prophet (SAW). We send peace & blessings upon the Prophet (SAW) during our prayers, uttering the following, ‘Allahumma salli a’la Muhammadin’ which literally means, ‘Allah Paak You send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (SAW). Now Allah Ta’ala has commanded us to send peace and blessing on the Prophet (SAW) but instead of acting upon this command we request to Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu that Allah Paak Jallashanahu, You Yourself send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (SAW). In the apparent sense this is going against the command but a person can only praise that, which he has knowledge of. The great status and excellence of the Beloved Prophet (SAW) is only known to Allah Paak Jallashanahu alone. This is the reason why we humbly admit that we are not familiar with the great status and excellence of the Prophet (SAW), Allah Paak Jallashanahu, only You are familiar with His great status and excellence, that is why You Yourself is requested to send peace and blessings upon the Beloved Prophet (SAW) on behalf of us. We do not have the ability to express the great excellence of the Beloved Prophet (SAW).

No matter what form of worship(Ibaada) you adopt/perform, you cannot say with surety that it will be accepted. To send Durood-e-paak upon the Prophet (SAW) is such a Ibaada that there is absolutely no doubt in its acceptance. In order for any supplication (Du’a) to be accepted it is necessary that Durood-e-paak is recited before and after it, otherwise it will remain suspended between the heavens and the earth.

It is reported in a Hadith that, ‘Whosoever is struck with hardship should send durood upon me abundantly’.

Lastly, I request you again, brothers to recite durood-e-paak abundantly, as much as you can.

Wa ma alena illal balagul mubeen.
